Albuquerque, New Mexico

During the summer of 1963, some believers in Albuquerque who had recently left denominational Christianity heard about a co-worker of Watchman Nee by the name of Witness Lee. Brother Lee was invited to speak to several gatherings of these believers in the fall of 1963. We continued meeting with no denominational ties, much along the lines of a free group, until 1968, when we finally decided to begin meeting simply as the church, according to the New Testament revelation. We began to enjoy the Lord in a richer and fuller way than ever before. Brother Lee was again invited to speak in Albuquerque; this series of meetings took place in the spring of 1969 with perhaps thirty-five to forty in attendance. Brother Lee was invited to speak a third time, in the fall of 1969, and spent several days in Albuquerque. He held large group meetings in the evening and was available for informal fellowship with smaller numbers during the day. We were much edified through his shepherding.

In the spring of 1970, the Christians meeting in Albuquerque traveled to Tempe, Arizona with Brother Witness Lee to gather with some believers from Tempe and Los Angeles. In fellowship with the Lord, we felt the Holy Spirit was sending out many of us from the churches in Albuquerque, Tempe, and Los Angeles to migrate to Atlanta, Georgia to begin meeting as the church there. During the fall of 1970 all the local church members left Albuquerque except one family which could not move because of heavy business debts, and one older married sister.

The family that remained in Albuquerque after the 1970 migration kept meeting by themselves for nearly three years, until the fall of 1973, when some additional believers from the West coast moved to Albuquerque to strengthen the testimony there. During the ensuing years all of those who had moved to Albuquerque eventually moved away; however, the testimony had become strong enough in the interim that a number of local believers were added to the church.

From 1973 to the present, more believers have been added to the church in Albuquerque, some of them remaining and others migrating to other cities. During this time the church in Albuquerque also has been involved on the campus of the University of New Mexico (UNM). Several church members have been gained from that campus, most of them eventually leaving the city to meet with local churches in other localities.

At the present the church in Albuquerque numbers about seventy-five adults, plus children. There is an active campus work at UNM with a weekly meeting and gospel outreach. The college-age believers as well as the other church members also meet regularly in homes, primarily for fellowship and prayer. On Sundays all the members gather together for two meetings in the morning: one for the Lord's Table (1 Corinthians 10:21) and another for mutual sharing of the ministry. With this schedule, the church seeks to follow the principle established in Acts 2:42 of continuing in the Apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer.
