Bellingham, Washington

In 1979, a group of college-age Christians moved here from Seattle and began to fellowship and break bread from house to house as the church in Bellingham. Many of these believers were college students or young families. During 1981, because of economic difficulties, most of those who were meeting as the church in Bellingham had to return to Seattle.

In April 1985, the Lord’s desire to establish His testimony in the Bellingham area began to be rekindled in some believers. First, a brother seeking employment with a local construction company was offered a good job in Bellingham. This brother and his wife sensed the anointing of the Lord in this situation and thus relocated to Bellingham in June 1985.

During this same time, the Lord was moving in another couple’s circumstances. The brother had been suffering from a chemical sensitivity disorder as a result of living in a polluted metropolitan area. To help him recover, his physician recommended Bellingham as “one of the places with the cleanest air in the country.” The couple came to investigate the region and ran into the first brother. When they found out that this brother and his family had already moved to Bellingham, their feeling was confirmed as being of the Lord, and they also moved here. These two families began to meet together in their homes in July 1985.

Within two months, the Lord touched several more families to migrate to Bellingham to begin meeting as the church here. Near the end of August 1985, there was a meeting of these believers in Bellingham’s South Hill area. The Lord filled that meeting with His presence, and in the midst of much praise and thanksgiving, we began to meet again as the church in Bellingham.

During the past fourteen years, the church has undergone changes as several families came and went. Presently there are twelve families from this area meeting as the church in Bellingham. A newly formed college-age Bible study has also become a regular part of the church meetings here.

The church here has the desire to minister the truths to this region. We also hope that a specific college work will be raised up soon on the Western Washington University campus to reach many of the over 11,000 students with the gospel of the kingdom and the enjoyment of the Lord Jesus.

For most of its fourteen years, the meetings of the church have been held in the homes of the local believers. We recently began meeting in a larger facility located on Imhoff Road in Ferndale, just 5 miles north of Bellingham. Regular meetings are held there on Monday nights for college Bible study and on Wednesday nights for prayer; on the Lord’s Day we have the Lord’s Table and prophesying meeting followed by a “pot luck” style dinner.
