Memphis, Tennessee

About thirty-five believers began meeting as the church in Memphis in 1973 in a home near what is now The University of Memphis. From the very beginning there was a definite blessing on the church as new believers were continually being added. In fact, by 1974 the number of those attending the meetings had nearly doubled. To this day, many of those gained by the Lord during that year continue to serve Him as vital members for His move. Also during that time, the church acquired a meeting facility in the central part of Memphis. In the latter part of 1973 a church conference was held in that new facility and many believers attended, coming both from Memphis and from other cities. Many came to meet and hear the sharing of brother Witness Lee, a co-worker of Watchman Nee. The church has been helped immensely by the ministries of these two brothers.

In 1974, many believers from several new, smaller churches, including the church in Memphis, began to move to cities where the churches were larger and more established. As a result, there was not much activity with the church in Memphis for a few years. In time, however, several families moved to Memphis—some who had previously lived here, and others who were led here by the Lord.

By the late 1980s, a number of families were again meeting together as the church in Memphis. In coming together, these believers experienced a new beginning for the church in Memphis. Then, with more prayer and fellowship, there was a growing awareness that the Lord wanted to have a prevailing church in this city. With this renewed view, others moved to strengthen the church and join in the labor. By fall 1999 over 50 believers were coming together in the church meetings on the Lord's Day. In October, because of the increase in numbers, the church purchased and later began to meet in a large home near The University of Memphis. Presently, the church holds its Lord's Day morning meetings and its weekly prayer meetings in that home. As the church in Memphis grows, the Lord continues to bless the church with life, light, and grace, and supply all His riches for the building up of His Body.
