Christians have been meeting together as the church in San Diego for almost 30 years. In September 1971, twenty-five believers moved from Anaheim and Los Angeles to meet as the church in the city of San Diego. Initially, the church was composed of many young people and families. Membership grew rapidly and steadily as all of the believers gathered frequently to sing, pray and spend considerable time in God's Word. From the very beginning, the church in San Diego preached the glorious gospel of Christ, resulting in hundreds receiving the Lord Jesus as their Savior over the years. By 1973, many new believers were added to the church, and the need arose to purchase a larger meeting hall.
The church began to meet at 3666 Madison Avenue in April, 1973. The increase in numbers continued as the Lord opened new areas for gospel reaping. Many new believers from the city's naval bases, universities, and communities were added to the church. During the mid 1980s and early 1990s, many members moved from San Diego to the nearby areas of Vista and Chula Vista to meet as the church in those cities. Following this migration, in June 1994, the church purchased a new meeting hall in the northern section of San Diego which could hold nearly 300 members.
At present, the church in San Diego has approximately 175 members, not including children. We meet in the meeting hall at 6640 Flanders Avenue as well as in many homes throughout the city for Bible study, fellowship and mutual care to build up all the members of the Body of Christ. As the church in San Diego, we are open to all believers in Christ and unbelievers who would be willing to know the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
